Can You Read

in a Foreign Language?

If you can read aloud in a foreign language, please let Victoria Hauser know so that she can assign you a part in our gospel reading on the Day of Pentecost, May 24.

On the Day of Pentecost we read the gospel in foreign languages to commemorate the apostles' sudden capacity to speak in foreign tongues for the purpose of evangelism after the Holy Spirit descends upon them at Pentecost, which we recognize as the birthday of the Church.

You do not have to be fluent in the language you read, and this is a low-pressure performance, as others will be reading aloud in other languages at the same time you are reading.

Prayers at the East Altar

If you need individual healing prayers, meet Deacon Peggy Newman at the east altar directly after the service.

You may also submit your prayers in writing by filling out the prayer request form in your bulletin and putting it in the offering plate. Peggy will offer these prayers before she leaves the church each Sunday. Prayers submitted in writing can be anonymous.

Worship in the Episcopal Church

The Book of Common Prayer states “the ministry of lay persons is to represent Christ and his Church; to bear witness to him wherever they may be; and, according to the gifts given them, to carry on Christ’s work of reconciliation in the world; and to take their place in the life, worship and governance of the Church.”  As Christians, we are called to follow the way of Jesus, to come together week by week for worship; and to work, pray, and give for the spread of God’s realm of love, justice, and peace.
